The subject matter and tone of this project were a lot more serious and introspective than anything he had previously released. This album was nothing like the music that gave him his “thug life” gangster image and street credentials. If you love this album already then there should be no reservations going ahead and grabbing a copy.Visit for more information Was very skeptical purchasing and was a bit of a leap of faith here. They clearly went with trying to get the best sound on wax for maximum enjoyment. As others have mentioned I doubt that this is an analog mastering from original tapes (i'm not even sure the original source was done on quality tapes anyway). There's not a lot of dynamic range musically (highs to lows in terms of volume and depth) on the album, but the dead wax was very quiet and it's mixed nice and low. For a Hip-Hop record this was remastered and pressed exactly how you'd like it to be. very punchy and the bass was nice a heavy without being overpowering. Discs are nice and flat, clean solid 180g. The jacket is nice and sturdy, wide spine. But, it's clear in all aspects they were very intentional about doing this "right". They could have easily done a quick cash grab and slapped just about anything out there.

I heard a lot of good things about the THUG LIFE release (which I was tempted to get, but had to wait to hear what others were saying). I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of this record, especially for such a large scale operation like UMe. While the beats and production on AEOM and Makaveli are superior, this feels like the best representation of 2Pac in my opinion. I have always loved the depth and range displayed here on this, as I believe this is also his most "lyrical" effort. I got this because it was my favorite 2Pac album when I was younger. ĭistributed by Universal Music Enterprises, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc.
